Second Haven is seeking Quest Guides to help co-facilitate small group adventures within our Minecraft-based community. Quest Guides help create group experiences that feel welcoming, organized, and inclusive, especially for players who may be new, uncertain, low-energy, or easily left behind in fast-moving social spaces.
Quest Guides will work alongside a peer support specialist, lead facilitator, or other designated staff member to support guided quests and shared activities. In some cases, they may help lead portions of an activity under the direction of the primary facilitator.
Role Summary
Quest Guides help players move through group adventures with clarity, confidence, and a sense of belonging. They pay attention to the overall flow of the experience while also noticing individual players who may need extra support, encouragement, or orientation.
This role is part host, part guide, and part gentle coordinator. Quest Guides help make sure no one is unintentionally excluded, confused, or overlooked. They offer practical support during quests, such as helping the group stay together, clarifying instructions, giving well-timed hints, and helping maintain a respectful and comfortable environment.
What Quest Guides Do
Quest Guides may:
- Co-facilitate guided group quests and adventures in Minecraft
- Help welcome players and orient them at the start of an activity
- Support players who seem confused, hesitant, overwhelmed, or left out
- Help the group stay together and move smoothly from one phase of the adventure to the next
- Offer hints or nudges when players get stuck, while preserving discovery and fun
- Watch for moments when one or more players are being unintentionally excluded or overshadowed
- Help create a calm, encouraging, and inclusive group atmosphere
- Provide light moderation during activities by reinforcing expectations and helping redirect minor issues
- Assist with practical coordination, such as gathering players, helping with teleportation flow, guiding movement between locations, or making sure players know where to go next
- Communicate with the lead facilitator about group dynamics, player needs, or issues that arise during the activity
What We’re Looking For
A strong Quest Guide is someone who:
- Enjoys helping others feel included
- Notices when someone is quiet, confused, or falling behind
- Can give support without taking over
- Has good judgment and a calm presence
- Communicates clearly and kindly
- Works well as part of a team
- Is comfortable helping a group stay organized without being harsh or controlling
- Understands that some players may have fluctuating energy, social comfort, or cognitive capacity
- Is familiar with Minecraft well enough to help players navigate shared activities
You do not need to be flashy, highly extroverted, or a master builder to be good in this role. Some of the best Quest Guides are simply attentive, steady, and good at helping others feel safe and included.
Why This Role Matters
Second Haven is designed for people whose lives may include chronic illness, disability, fatigue, pain, mental health challenges, or other barriers to consistent social connection. Group adventures can be exciting and meaningful, but they can also become confusing, fast-paced, or socially uneven without thoughtful support.
Quest Guides help make these experiences more accessible, more cohesive, and more welcoming. Their presence can make the difference between a player feeling lost in the background and a player feeling genuinely included in the adventure.
Support and Structure
Quest Guides are not expected to carry the emotional or clinical responsibilities of a peer support specialist. This is a supportive facilitation role, not a therapy role. Quest Guides receive direction from lead facilitators and work within the structure of each activity.
Time Commitment
Time commitment may vary depending on the event schedule and the volunteer’s availability. Quest Guides may support occasional quests, recurring group activities, or special events.
