This role is ideal for someone who enjoys noticing meaningful moments, shaping them into compelling posts or short videos, and helping others see what makes a community feel special. Social Media Creators help us communicate not just what we do but why it matters.

Role Summary

Social Media Creators help translate the everyday life of Second Haven into content that can be shared with the wider world. This may include highlighting community events, introducing new projects, sharing screenshots or short clips from Minecraft, helping explain our mission, or creating posts that invite new people to learn more about the community.

This role is part storyteller, part communicator, and part content creator. A strong Social Media Creator is able to notice what is meaningful, shape it into clear and engaging content, and present it in a way that feels warm, genuine, and aligned with Second Haven’s values.

The goal is not to create polished marketing for its own sake. The goal is to help people understand the heart of the community and feel invited into it.

What Social Media Creators Do

Social Media Creators may:

  • Create social media posts that highlight community events, projects, updates, or meaningful moments
  • Help communicate Second Haven’s mission, tone, and values through written and visual content
  • Write captions, short descriptions, promotional blurbs, or reflective posts for platforms such as Facebook, Reddit, Bluesky, Pinterest, and The Mighty
  • Create or edit simple visual content, such as screenshots, graphics, carousels, reels, shorts, or short-form videos
  • Help document community life in a way that is respectful, accurate, and welcoming
  • Identify moments, themes, or stories that would make strong content
  • Help promote upcoming activities, quests, or special events
  • Support consistency in tone, voice, and messaging across posts
  • Coordinate with staff or Haveners about what to feature, when to post, and what priorities to highlight
  • Help ensure that public-facing content reflects the community honestly and thoughtfully

What We’re Looking For

A strong Social Media Creator is someone who:

  • Enjoys communicating ideas in a way that is clear, engaging, and human
  • Has a good eye for what makes a moment, message, or visual worth sharing
  • Can write in a warm, accessible, and inviting tone
  • Is thoughtful about how to represent a community accurately and respectfully
  • Understands basic social media storytelling, even if they are not a professional marketer
  • Can turn screenshots, clips, events, or updates into content that others will want to notice and understand
  • Is dependable and able to follow through on agreed-upon tasks
  • Works well with feedback and collaboration
  • Has some familiarity with Minecraft, online communities, or digital spaces or is open to learning

Experience with graphic design, video editing, caption writing, content planning, or social media platforms is helpful but not required. What matters most is strong judgment, good communication, and the ability to help tell the story of the community.

Why This Role Matters

Second Haven serves people whose lives may include chronic illness, fatigue, disability, pain, mental health challenges, or other barriers to consistent social connection. The heart of the community is not always easy to explain in a sentence or two. It often becomes visible through moments like these: a community build, a small event, a player learning something new, or a shared adventure that helps someone feel less alone.

Social Media Creators help make those moments visible. Their work helps new people discover the community, helps supporters understand its value, and helps the wider world see that online spaces can be gentle, creative, and deeply meaningful.

Support and Structure

Social Media Creators will work collaboratively with lead staff, community members, facilitators, or other volunteers to identify content priorities, gather materials, and shape messaging.

Volunteers in this role are not expected to handle crisis communication, sensitive community matters, or situations requiring clinical judgment. Their role is creative communication, storytelling, and thoughtful public-facing content support.

Time Commitment

Time commitment may vary depending on the volunteer’s availability and current community needs. Social Media Creators may contribute occasionally or on a more regular basis, such as helping with weekly posts, event promotion, short videos, or campaign-based content.
